This fearsome fellow was a monster I designed for the Dungeons and Dragons game I’m playing with my friends online this summer. He was also based off a prompt my sister gave me, as the only way she would agree to play, she said, was if she could play as a “sentient peach.” Challenge accepted!
After a pencil sketch and inking with brush markers, I coloured in the peach with a cheap set of dollar-store watercolours that ended up giving me some surprisingly rich colours to work with. I haven’t painted with watercolours in a very long time, so I’m proud of the result.
I love that this piece came about both to connect with people virtually (my friends in Southern Ontario) and with the people in my own home (my very excited sister, who loved getting to play one of the big baddies my friends had to face). Dungeons and Dragons has really inspired me to get back to drawing, and I highly encourage it for those looking to try something new! It’s a great way to connect and create, even when you’re far apart.
